| Abstract | An investigation of the transient absorptions and proton-pumping efficiencies of a series of bacteriorhodopsin proteins, modified by labelling of the lysine amino acid residues with fluorescamine, demonstrates that at low concentrations, the labelling has mild effects on the absorption spectra, the kinetics of the transient (M-intermediate) generation under flash photolytic conditions and proton-pumping efficiencies, while at high concentrations larger changes in absorption, transient absorption and proton-pumping efficiencies are observed. |
