Description |
In this paper, modelling and simulation of a grid connected variable speed wind energy conversion system (VSWECS) is presented. The system consists of a variable speed wind turbine coupled to a permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG), two pulse width modulated power converters and a maximum power point tracker (MPPT). MPPT is used to extract maximum power available with the wind turbine by measuring only the rotational speed of the turbine. Detailed mathematical model of each element of the system is developed separately and then they are interconnected to simulate the whole system for various wind velocities. The complete system has been simulated using MATLAB, and simulation results are presented.
