Description |
The Variant of Ad Hoc On-Demand Distance Vector and Dynamic Source Routing (VAD) Reactive routing protocol is intended for use by mobile nodes in an ad hoc network. The protocol is composed of the two mechanisms; "Route Discovery" and "Route Maintenance", they work together to allow nodes to discover and maintain source routes in the form of routing table to arbitrary destinations in the ad hoc network. Each path (virtual circuit) is given a virtual circuit identifier (VCI) and a Virtual circuit Sequence number which are embedded in the routing tables of the nodes en route to the destination. All aspects of the protocol operate entirely on-demand, allowing the routing packet overhead of VAD to scale automatically to only that needed to react to changes in the routes currently in use. This document specifies the operation of the VAD protocol for routing IP packets in multi-hop wireless ad hoc networks.
