Description |
The propulsion system has a high cost of ownership, long development period, and bears a dominant influence on aircraft mission performance. Thus identification of an optimum engine cycle right in the conceptual design, which makes the aircraft most responsive in terms of the cost as well as performance, to the specified baseline mission is the prime necessity. Engine steady-state performance estimates form an important input to cycle optimization studies. This paper defines the conceptual design constraints, and extends the methods reported in open literature to describes a mathematical model for steady-state performance prediction of two- and three-spool military engines. The proposed formulation is robust, computationally fast, consistent with conceptual design accuracy, and is readily adaptable for integration into a parametric conceptual design software.
