Description Sol-gel derived organic-inorganic hybrid materials offer an elegant and simple material system which can be applied as an anticorrosion surface coatings. These hybrids coating material is formed through the hydrolysis and condensation of organically modified silicate with traditional alkoxide precursor. The organic part and inorganic part combined together by chemical bonds and leads to a dense, highly adherent layers and hydrophobic layer on the substrate. Sol gel derived coating material also offers the possibility of waterborne system. In this short review article, corrosion resistance ability of these hybrid coating has been discussed with several striking example.
