Description The effect of fabric geometry on the in-plane shear strength and in-plane shear modulus of two-dimensional (2D) orthogonal plain weave fabric laminates under in-plane shear loading has been investigated. A 2D woven fabric strength model has been used for in-plane shear strength predictions, whereas a 2D stiffness model has been used for in-plane shear modulus predictions. The weave geometrical parameters considered are strand width, strand thickness and inter-strand gap and the corresponding fibre volume fractions. The studies were carried out for three idealized laminate configurations. The predicted values were compared with the experimental results. It is observed that fabric geometry can significantly affect the shear strength and shear modulus.
