Description Composite coatings, consisting mainly of transition metal nitride and gold-ahoy thin films, an produced on stainless steel substrates using a combination of reactive are evaporation and magnetron sputtering. The coatings are evaluated for their porosity, damage due to arcing, perspiration and adhesion. Thickness, surface roughness, surface morphology, hue and gloss are also determined. Based on these tests and measurements, a decorative coating is developed for an application to wrist-watch straps. The study on optimization of process parameters for the coating is presented in this paper.
