Description |
This paper is aimed at developing the equivalent circuit for switched reluctance motor (SRM). The concept of such an equivalent circuit is not new. However, what is new is the development of a comprehensive equivalent circuit capable of explaining motor operation in all modes such as (i) operation without or with saturation, (ii) continuous or discontinuous conduction, and (iii) four quadrant operation. A further merit of this equivalent circuit is that the electromechanical power conversion is represented by an equivalent resistance therein. Furthermore, this equivalent circuit may be integrated with that of the 'inverter' for it, so that optimization of switched reluctance motor drive (SRD), consisting of SRM and its inverter, becomes possible.
