Description |
Roastings of chromium oxide with sodium carbonate at low and high temperatures has been discussed. Experiments were carried out to study the effect of reaction temperature, Cr2O3/Na2CO3 ratio and oxygen partial pressure on alkali roasting kinetics. Finally, an empirical integrated rate equation describing the influence of these process variables has been obtained which can be used conveniently to estimate the time required for a particular degree of conversion in the range 0.2 - 0.6. The activation energy values for the alkali roasting are found to be 68 and 48 kJ.mol(-1) for reactions at low (600 - 900 K) and high temperatures (973 - 1273 K), respectively.
