Description |
Electroslag remelting (ESR) of the high strength steel 15CDV6 with inoculation during remelting leads to a significant increase of ductility and toughness along with a small increase of strength. Increasing the carbon content of the steel from 0.14 to 0.28% results in a considerable increase of strength to about 1500 MN m(-2), sacrificing the increased ductility and toughness achieved due to ESR with inoculation. This possibility of tradeoff between the strength and toughness of steels is seen as an important contribution of ESR to designing steels to suit specific requirements.
