Description A new method is developed for the solvent extraction separation of indium(III) from 4 mol l-1 hydrobromic acid with 0.02 mol l-1 18-crown-6 in methylene chloride. Indium was stripped with 1 mol l-1 acetic acid and was determined spectrophotometrically at 545 nm as its complex with 1-(2-pyridylazo)naphtol. A sequential separation of aluminium, gallium, indium, thallium was possible by the process of selective extraction with 18-crown-6 and selective stripping with suitable stripping agents like maleic, hydrochloric or acetic acid, respectively. Indium was also separated from germanium, tin, lead or arsenic, antimony, and bismuth.
