Description This paper explores some correlation between high-temperature oxidation and the electrochemical corrosion behavior of Fe-Al-C alloys. The weight gain during oxidation and current density in the passive region during anodic polarization in 0.5 N sulfuric acid (H2SO4) displayed a similar trend with variation in the composition of Fe-Al-C alloys, in relative proportion. Examination of the samples after high-temperature oxidation and electrochemical corrosion revealed that the phase that suffers from preferential dissolution during aqueous corrosion gets preferentially oxidized during high-temperature oxidation. These interpretations were supported by some similarities between the chemistry of the passive and oxide films. This correlation permits the prediction of the comparative oxidation resistance of an Fe-Al-C alloy by its corrosion behavior.
