Description |
During a scheduled inspection of a refinery plant, delamination and cracking was found in an overhead stabilizer vessel of a catalytic reformer unit. The cracking was due to hydrogen blistering, resulting from the presence of abundant Type II MnS stringers and the banded pearlitic structure. An improper CCl4/H-2 ratio is believed to have led to the formation of HCl in excess, which in turn promoted uniform corrosion and hydrogen blistering.
