Description The paper deals with the finite element computation of the crack closure integrals (CCIs) and the stress intensity factors (SIFs) under mechanical and/or thermal loadings, which give rise to forces at nodes close to a crack tip region. Four examples are presented to illustrate the usefulness of the method. In each case the SIFs have been calculated through the CCIs and a direct comparison of displacements. In the first three cases results have been compared with some data available in the literature. The agreement is good. The results based on the CCIs are more accurate than those obtained by the displacement comparison.
