Description |
This paper reports the results on spatial and temporal variation of atmospheric particulate concentration using a quartz crystal microbalance cascade impactor, which gives real-time output data. Particulates were measured in 10 size ranges (aerodynamic diameters) from 25-mu-m to 0.05-mu-m. The average concentration of particulates of sizes 12.5-mu-m and 6.4-mu-m was found to be more than the PM-10 values prescribed by U.S.EPA. Hourly observations of particulate concentration and wind velocity were also made and a regression model fitted between them. Diurnal measurements showed that concentrations of size segregated particulates were mostly higher during night hours than day hours. Variation of particulate concentration with sampling heights gave a maximum around 9 m and a decreasing trend above this height for fine aerosols of sizes less than 3.2-mu-m.
