Description A new method is proposed for the extractive chromatographic separation of antimony. Antimony is extracted from 0.001-0.5 M hydrochloric acid by a silica gel column coated with bis(2-ethylhexyl)phosphoric acid stripped with 2-8 M hydrochloric, nitric or sulphuric acid, and determined spectrophotometrically at 555 nm as its complex with phenylfluorone. Antimony can thus be separated from a large number of elements, including iron, manganese, copper and thallium. Arsenic, antimony, bismuth and tin can be sequentially separated.
