Description |
In order to evaluate the potential benefits of surface-treating steels for service in water-reactor coolants, coupons of carbon steel and the ferritic steels 2 1/4 Cr-1Mo and 9Cr-1Mo were plasma-coated with nickel-chromium mixtures and then surface-alloyed by irradiating with laser light from a continuous-wave CO2 laser. Subsequent exposure of the coupons to simulated PWR primary coolant in an autoclave demonstrated that the treatments reduced corrosion and Co-60 pick-up. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science S.A. .
