Description The behavior of unidirectional (UD) and woven fabric (WF) laminates has been studied under low velocity impact using a 3D transient finite element code. The failure evaluation of the laminates used a failure function based on Tsai-Hill criterion. The studies were carried out for both simply supported and clamped boundary conditions with plate geometry 150 x 150 x 8 mm. Incident impact velocity of 5 m/s and impactor mass of 50 gm were considered. It was observed that the failure function is lower for WF laminates than for UD laminates indicating that WF laminates are more resistant to impact damage.
