Description An amperometric glucose biosensor based on Glucose oxidase (GOx)/Arginated-Fe3O4/Glassy Carbon Electrode (GCE) was fabricated. For the development of biosensor, magnetic Fe3O4 nanoparticles (MNPs) were functionalized with L-arginine amino acid to provide biocompatibility and good dispersion. The functionalized L-arginated Fe3O4 MNPs exhibited very high positive zeta potential 29.6 mV at pH 7. The developed sensor has tremendous potential application in glucose biosensing due to the downward shift in the anodic peak voltage from 0.32 V for bare GCE to 0.22 V for GOx/Arg-Fe3O4/GCE and substantial increment of the anodic peak current from 2.5 mu A to 12.5 mu A. Attractive characteristics, such as high sensitivity (24.58 mu A mM(-1) cm(-2)), low detection limit (3.4 mu M), reliability, reproducibility and stability were demonstrated. A linear calibration plot was obtained over a wide range of glucose concentration (10.2 mu M to 25 mM).
