A study of 383 samples of Isaac - Kidd Midwater Trawl collections taken by FORV Sagar Sampada during 1985-'86 has shown that the Deep Scattering Layers of the Indian EEZ harbour rich population of pelagic shrimps, with maximum abundance in the west coast. The mean density of shrimps estimated is 311 nos/haul for the west coast including Lakshadweep, 82 nos for the east coast and lO7nm for Andaman-Nicobar region.
