Description |
The study was conducted along Mumbai coast using Potential Fishing Zone (PFZ) advisories issued by the Indian National Center for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS). The catch per unit effort (CPUE) and water quality parameters from PFZ and non-PFZ areas were analyzed. Mean CPUE of experimental fishing in PFZ and non-PFZ area was 30.7 kg/h and 18.7 kg/h respectively. Mean CPUE calculated from feedback data of fishermen in PFZ was 18.31 kg/h, whereas the mean CPUE in non-PFZ area was only 5.23 kg/h. Dissolved oxygen level was 0.45 ppm more in PFZ compared to non-PFZ. The temperature in PFZ and non-PFZ ranged from 27.1 °C to 31.1 °C and 30 °C to 31.6 °C respectively. The pH of water ranged from 6.9 to 8.4 in PFZ and 6.9 to 8.4 in non-PFZ. Total suspended material (TSM) values varied from 0.03209 to 0.04936 mg/l in PFZ and 0.03616 to 0.0439 mg/l in non-PFZ. Chlorophyll data recorded was 0.02–0.03 μg/l. Corresponding to chlorophyll data, pheophytin also recorded higher amount in PFZ.
