Description Paddy seeds ha"ested at two stagn from three types (sleDder, medium and round) were milled usbJg three kinds of
shellers (rubber roller, centrifugal and metal~rubber roller) aud three kinds of pearlers (emery roller, emery cone, metal
roller). Rice breakage, in..eacb case, originated mainly from defective (cracked and immature) grains, but breaking
depended on the equipment and tbe grain type. Generally breakage of dera:tive grains was I~ in rubber-roll than
in other shellers, iu abrasion-type than in friction-type pearlers, in ronnd than In slender grain type, and in low than
in higb degrees or milling. All these factors interacted and the final product depended on the specific conditions
employed.
