Description |
Aluminium phosphide tablets of (i) indigenous (Indian) and (ii) West German manufacture were tested for disinfesting milled rice and wheat at 1.5 and 3.0 tablets/t and the gas concn. was monitored for 120 h. The test insects included Oryzaephilus surinamensis, Sitophilus oryzae, and Tribolium castaneum. Max. release of PH3 was noted at the end of 48 h in milled rice and at 24 h in wheat. The rate of PH3 release was faster in (i) than in (ii) during the first 7 h of wheat fumigation, but this difference was not marked in rice. Cumulative concn. time (ct) products did not vary much for (i) and (ii) except in (i) on wheat at higher dosage yielding an average ct product of 396 mg.h/l as against 368 mg.h/l with (ii). 100% mortality of all stages of test insects was obtained in all treatments.
