Description |
The effect of feeding common salt enriched with calcium sulphate along with rice dIet to school children for a period of 5 months has been investigated. It has been observed that the children fed with enriched salt put on more weight and height, and exhibit a slight improvement in their nutritional status as compared with children receiving ordinary salt. Calcium balance studies carried out by feeding 20 g. of the enriched salt, contributing 350 mg. of calcium per day to the diet of the children, have shown that enriched salt induced an average dally retention of nearly 130 mg. calcium per day in excess of that retained by the control group of children. |
