Description The effect of fermented fish viscera silage (FVS) or poultry intenstine silage (PIS) in diet was
compared with fish meal on growth and meat quality of broiler chickens. Fish meal at S% (w/w) in
the diet was treated as control and 50% of fish meal was replaced either by FVS or by PIS in two
experimental diets. Consumption of álage diets was more by 19.4% in FVS and 16.7% in PIS compared
to control. Feed converáon efficiency of silage diet was also better (FCR = 2.12 for FVS, 2.27 for
PIS and 2.62 for fish meal diets) resulting in better growth in birds fed with silages. Yield of carcass
(69.2 - 70.2%) and organ meats were not influenced by diet formulations, as also muscle composition.
Fishy taint was observed in cooked muscles from birds fed with FVS and fish meal. The muscles from
birds fed with PIS were rated best due to absence of fishy taint.
