Description For the control of pests on grapes, Lindane, Malathion,
Dimetboate and Sevin arc commonly and largely used in India.
Grapes samples received from various parts of the country in
Mysore market showed the pesticide residues in significant
quantities. The efficacy of different ldeĀ«lntaminating agents is
screened to remove the above pesticide residues. Among the
different chemical solutions screened, 2% sodium bicarbonate
and 2% acetic acid are found to be more effective for the
removal of lindane, malathion, dimethoate and sevin from
grapes. A simple clean up procedure based on Thin-Layer
Chromatography for the separation and quick detection of the
insecticide residues from the interfering pigments is discussed.
