Description |
The fate of [U-'UC]aspartate during 6 hr of uptake by 10·day old seedlings of Bengal gram has been studied. Much of the aspartate (about 42%) taken up is converted into CO~, about 10,% Into organic acids (mainly malic and citric acids), 6% into amino acids and 3 tool % Into alkali extractable (protein) components. Among amino acidS, lysine·(34%) and threonine (homoserine) (8·8'i'~) had the hil1hest activity. The results indicate that, in Bengal gram, the pathway of biosynthesis of lysine, threonine, methionine and isoleucine may be similar to that of bacteria. |
