Description |
Fusarium solani is one of the fungi previously isolated in CFTRI, Mysore, degrades caffeine approximately 100% at 96 hours. Different enzymes are involved in caffeine degradation pathway by F. Solani. One of the enzyme involved in this pathway is xanthine oxidase which convert xanthine to uric acid. The present work is focused on the biotransformed product accumulation in presence of xanthine oxidase inhibitor allopurinol. There was no considerable difference in the accumulation of the biotransformed products (theophylline, 1 methyl xanthine and xanthine) in presence of different concentration of allopurinol (4-10 mM) and without allopurinol. The xanthine oxidase activity was very low and no significant difference was found. The addition of standard xanthine to the fermentation media at 96 hr showed the activation of enzyme which lead to the degradation of xanthine to respective compounds in presence of the inhibitor. Hence the xanthine oxidase inhibitor (allopurinol) has no effect on the biotransformed product accumulation in the isolated strain.
