Description Field studies were conducted to monitor the incidence
of~- litura through pheromone traps, disrupt mating through
synthetic sex pheromone and screen the varietal response
against s. litura in groundnut on the Agricultural College
Farm and Farmer's Field, Bapatla during 1991-92 rabi.
Significant positive association between pheromone trap
catches of s. litura and egg masses, larvae and leaf infestation
in the field were observed in groundnut (r = 0.89,
0.79 and 0.59) respectively.
The moth catches in pheromone traps were significantly
low (1 to 3 moths/trap) in mating disruption experiment
indicating the confusion among the males due to release of
very high concentration of synthetic sex pheromone from
various close spaced points. The egg masses (0.19), number
of larvae (0.31) and field infestation (1.10) were also very
low, which was probably due to the mating disruption
achieved.
The investigations with regard to the varietal response
to s. litura infestation revealed that the varieties ICGS-
2271 (0.03, 0.31 and 10.0), GBPRS-312 (0.07, 0.42 and 10.16)
and GBPRS-15 (0.09, 0.6 and 10.7) were more resistant by ~ :
recording significantly lower number of egg masses larval
population and field infestation followed by GBPRS-66 (0.22,
0.98 and 12.68), ICG-10 (0.25, 1.1 and 13 . 22) and ICGS-44
(0.36, 1.2 and 14.33), :1"\..~. \fohc.~\-)' TMV-2 (control) recorded
fairly high number of egg masses, larval population and
field infestation (0.92, 3.5 and 20.0).
