Description |
In present study an attempt has been made to observe effect of the ecological parameters pH, DO, turbidity, on turtle population in 3 geographical regions in Odisha. pH of water samples of Kedargauri was 6.68, Kuakhia river 6.22 and Champeswar tank 7.83. Dissolved Oxygen in Kedargauri water sample was 32 mg/litre, Kuahiariver 22.8mg/litre and in Champeswar 20 mg/litre. Maximum turbidity was observed in water tank of Champeswar and least turbidity in Kedargauri water tank, Kuakhiariver was found to be quite clear. Population of TrachemysscriptaeleganandLissemyspunctata were noticed over Kedargauri tank and Kuakhiariver. Where as the Nillsoniagangeticus was absent in KuakhiariveranKedargauri tank. Large number of Nilssoniagangeticus turtles were observed in Champeswar tank although Lissemyspunctata were also present but less in number. All these observations indicate that there was variation in pH from 6.22- 7.83 and variation in turbidity and DO but all three species of turtles were present, it means they can survive in varied environmental conditions.
