Description An experiment enti t;.J_ed . ".E.ff ~ct 9~ row spacing and
nitrogen level on growth, herbage and oil yield of mint" was
conducted .at Agricultural College Form, Bapatla during rabi
season of 1990-91 on sandy clay loam soil. The experiment
was laid out in split plot design with 12 treatments and
replicated thrice. The plant height, number of branches and leaves increased
with increase ·of ·row··spacing a·nd · nitrogen appl·ica-
1 tion upto 160 kg ha •
Leaf area index increased and crop growth rate decreased
with increas.e .. .. of-.. row. spacing. and . . inc:r:eased with an
increase of nitrogen level upto 160 kg ha-l
NAR decreased with increase of row spacing and nitrogen
levels.
Dry matter accumulation and nitrogen uptake decreased
with increase of row spacing and·· increased with increase of
-1 nitrogen upto 160 kg ha •
Oil content was not affected by row spacing but application
-1 of 160 kg ha significantly increased ·the oil content
at 150 days after planting.
Herbage and oil yield decreased with increase of row
spacing and increased with increase of nitrogen level upto
160 kg ha-1 .
Herbage and oil yields per hectare have -highly significant
positive correlation with number of leaves, oil content,
dry matter production and nitrogen uptake.
For optimum economical yields of herbage and oil, the
crop may be spaced at 30 cm row spacing and applied with 160
-1 kg N ha •
Crop may be harvested at 150 days after planting for
maximum -herbage and oil yields per hectare.
