Description |
Daily rainfall data of 20 years (1995-2014) of undulating plain drought prone region of Bolangir district were analyzed for determining annual, seasonal, monthly and weekly rainfall characteristic along with the probability of occurrence of drought, normal and abnormal rainfall over the study period. Mean annual rainfall found to be 1145mm of which July recorded highest rainfall (349.38 mm) but August has the lowest C.V. (20.5) and August rainfall 317.65mm and December the lowest (0 mm) Mean rainfall for summer, monsoon, post monsoon and winter were 51 mm, 1018 mm, 54 mm and 22 mm respectively. Analysis of data are conducted in Excel and Normal distribution is used for probability analysis of rainfall data. Mean week of unset and withdrawal of monsoon were 23rd (4-10 June) SMW and 40th SMW (1-7 October) respectively and average length of rainy season was 18 weeks with a variation between 15-24 weeks. Short duration rice and sugarcane are the main crops in this region during Kharif season and Rabi crops like pulses, oilseeds and vegetables could be grown with residual soil moisture after withdrawal of monsoon. |
