Analytical research design was used for conducting the study. Udham singh nagar and champawat districts of Uttarakhand were selected purposefully. Three Tehsils were selected for the study based on highest number of Tribe women. Champawat block was selected from Purnagiri tehsil. From Khatima tehsil Khatima block was selected and Sitarganj block was selected from sitarganj tehsil. Two villages having maximum Tharu population were selected from each Khatima, Sitarganj and one village from Champawat block. Khera and Bhuriya villages were selected from Khatima block, Bavanpuri from Champawat block and Tisor and Baghouri villages were selected from Sitarganj block. From each village through proportional simple random sampling method, 200 respondents were selected. Thus, the total sample size was 200 respondents. This study was conducted in two districts of Uttarakhand state. The profile of the respondents indicated that most of the respondents had low level of education and were less empowered. Married women were more empowered. Land holding did not affect empowerment, material possession was high and as high the material possession higher the empowerment was. Social participation was quiet low and most of the respondents were dependent on their husbands. Respondents had low family income and medium level of source of information utilization. Marketing facility was not good and they had high value orientation. Respondents work more in farms and good at decision making process. Respondents had high level of psychological, cultural, social and economic empowerment and low level of political and legal empowerment. So we can conclude that the general perception about high tribe women empowerment is not totally right as they were not highly politically and legally empowered. It is needed to policy makers to frame policies which can pave the path of empowerment and government need to focus toward their empowerment and development. It is needed to make them aware of the civil rights, Exercising the political and legal rights whenever necessary, Preparing and canvassing the documents regarding the legal and political freedom for women, Providing good literary programmes regarding the legal and political empowerment. Collective awareness and collective action must be involved to fully empower women.
