Description Polyhouse farming is an alternative new technique in agriculture gaining foothold in rural India. It reduces dependency on rainfall and makes the optimum use of land and water resources. Polyhouses are structures utilized as microclimate environment to make the plants grow well in unfavourable climate. They are extremely useful when plants, in particular period of the year, cannot be grown in open country or in areas where the climate never guarantees a good quality crop. Polyhouse cultivation as well as other modes of controlled environment cultivation has been evolved to create favourable micro-climates, which favours the crop production could be possible all through the year or part of the year as required. The present study was conducted in Centre of Excellence, Deras which has been set up by the Directorate of Horticulture, Odisha and is funded by RKVY.
The study was to develop a business plan for floriculture and to find out ways so that it could overcome the loopholes and be benefited in future.
It covers a total area of 36.8 Acres out of which floriculture covers an area of 7.5Acres.The flowers include Gerbera, Rose, Chrysanthemum and Bird of Paradise .The marketing and production pattern can be improved and it has a wide opportunity to gain more income from sales every year.
