Description The present study entitled “Studies on blue oyster mushroom (Hypsizygus ulmarius) in Chhattisgarh.” was carried out for in the Department of Plant Pathology, Collage of Agriculture, IGKVV, Raipur.
Nutritional and physiological studies were carried out growth and biomass of H. ulmarius, to found out suitable media, colour of light, duration of light, and pH. In solid and liquid media potato dextrose, black colour, 24hrs darkness and 8.0pH gave superior radial growth and biomass of H. ulmarius. Among the tested of carbon and nitrogen sources dextrose and L-asparagin respectively were superior for promoting the growth and biomass (fresh and dry weight) of H. ulmarius. Maize grains, black colour and complete darkness took significantly less period for spawn development of H. ulmarius.
The blue oyster mushroom was grown 8 successive months on paddy straw substrate from October 2006 to May 2007. Significantly earlier spawn run and higher yield was observed during the month of January. However, April and March months required more periods for spawn run and gave significantly less yield. No spawn run was observed during May 2007. Nine percent spawning rate and thorough mixing method was found excellent for higher yield of H. ulmarius.
