Description |
The foregoing account, it is evident that Vembanad Lake, including the Cochin backwaters is undergoing man-made shrinkage, at an alarming rate and a rough estimate of similar plans in the future shows that by the turn of this century the area of the backwater will be reduced to about 17%. Lack of proper planning in developmental activities has created an imbalance in the ecosystem, ultimately reducing the carrying capacity of this natural buffering zone. |
