Description Marine Environmental Impact Assessment (MEIA) studies help planning setting up of new industries along the coast. In dispersion studies under MEIA, eddy diffusion coefficients are used to understand the mixing of pollutants in the marine environment. Eddy diffusion coefficients (kx, ky , kz ) in the coastal waters are calculated using 2-D turbulent diffusion model, in six areas (I) - Mutyalammapalem-Appikonda; (II) - Bhimili- Annavaram; (III) - off Mentada; (IV) - off Gopalpur; (V) - off Puri and (VI) - off Konark along the east coast in Andhra Pradesh and Orissa states. The values of kx and ky , in area (I) are comparable with those obtained from dye experiment, while they are one order higher in area II, compared to areas I & III. The mean values of kx and ky for the coastal waters of north Andhra are estimated as 4.04 x 104 cm2/sec and 0.96 x 104 cm2/sec respectively during winter season, while the values off Orissa coast are 2.79 x 108 cm2/sec and 3.05 x 106 cm2/sec respectively.
