Description |
An onshore exploration along the tributaries of the river Madovi in taluka Sattari of North Goa district, revealed the presence of 8 sculptures of Mother Goddess with the boat motifs. Most of the sculptures are in very dilapidated condition and are lying in dense forest. Stylistically, these sculptures represent the folk tradition of famous Saptamatrikas. This is very unique traditions as boat motifs in Mother Goddess panel have not been reported so far from any part of the country. It is difficult to assign a particular date for these sculptures on the style basis as they belong local folk tradition. However, there state of present condition and comparison with modern sculpture indicate that these could be much older which need to be debated in greater perspective.
