Title An approach towards solving refraction problems in EM1002 multi-beam echo-sounder system

Creator Fernandes, W.A.

Description Multi-beam echo-sounding is the technique in which multiple beams of acoustic in nature are sent down to seabed and upon reflection, they are received back and processed to give depths values. The report is focused to give a brief idea about EM1002 multi-beam echosounder system's components, calibration and data analysis with corrections. The topics such as problem identification and the exercise conducted to solve the refraction problems online were discussed to give the ideas about methods utilized to correct for refraction problems during data analysis. A 3D view of recently acquired data in Mandovi River is also shown as an example of using sound velocity profiler in data collection. The report is also stressed upon the operator level maintenance and debugging of the EM1002 multi-beam echo-sounder system. This report will be very useful for the multibeam system operators as it is focused on multi-beam operation, data processing and maintenance.
