Description An echo data acquisition system is designed to digitize echo signal from a single beam shipboard echo-sounder for use in sea-floor classification studies using a 12 bit analog to digital (A/D) card with a maximum sampling frequency of 1 MHz. Both 33 KHz and 210 KHz echo sounding signals from the Reson Navitronics NS-420 echo-sounder are digitized and stored on the PC hard disk along with position and depth data. A cruise was carried out onboard ship CRV Sagar Purvi along a track off Goa on the Western Continental shelf of India for acquiring echo data. The data presented clearly indicates the capability of echo data acquisition system for sea-floor classification studies
