Description |
Heavy mineral sand from Kalbadevi Bay, Ratnagiri, Maharashtra is well known for ilmenite placer deposits. Study along the central profile of the Bay shows that the sand is major constituent followed by silt, and clay content is present in negligible amount. Among the five locations studied along the central profile (BP-02), only berm area display seasonal variation for sand and silt with depth. It appears that berm environment is comparatively live and important where variations in sand and heavy minerals are seen related with respect to three seasons. The studies show that only the berm environment has high potential and highest reserves.
