Description |
The morphology and chemical composition of more than 200 plagioclase crystals in the Carlsberg Ridge basalts (3~'35' and 3~'41'N) in relation to the magmagenesis of the basalts is examined. The results indicate that the different morphotypes together with their significant compositional characteristics attest to magmatic processes such as fractional crystallisation and mixing. The study tends to present a rational interpretation for the occurrence and usefulness of plagioclase in relation to the magmatic regimes
