Description |
Geographical Information System (GIS) is used to select a site for industrial effluent discharge along the coastal region. The system is developed to deal with the behavior of the discharged effluent in the coastal waters and it affects on coastal environment, especially, off Paradip, Orissa, India. The system provides the users with various map query and contour visualization interfaces. The GIS based interfaces are very user-friendly and the system can be efficiently used as a powerful tool to synthesize all the data, for comprehensive interpretation and forecasting of marine environmental impact on the study region. The spatial database is used for mapping to assess the environmental impact at the study region. GIS is the information system in which spatial as well as non-spatial data are important. The marine environmental capacity to accept the industrial effluent depends upon its ability to dilute and disperse the effluent. This environment contains high biodiversity sensitive to water characteristics. These characteristics of coastal waters are mapped and queried the major attribute data to judge the effects of disposal on the environment.
