Description While there have been a number of reports on occurrences of algal blooms in the coastal waters of India, the observation on large scale Noctiluca bloom during FORV Sagar Sampada cruises (years 2003 and 2004), forms the first report from NE Arabian Sea open waters. The time series from ocean colour monitor (OCM) onboard OCEANSAT indicates this bloom gradually extending as far as Oman. Bloom that generally initiates in the last week of January was found to persist until mid-March.
