Description A sea level logger based on Rabbit-Core micro-controller module has been designed and tested. The transducer used with the logger is a temperature-compensated semiconductor transducer, providing absolute fluid pressure in RS-485 format. The choice of Rabbit Core micro-controller was governed primarily by its inherent suitability for interface with serial input/output devices such as the present transducer. A software program burnt into the Rabbit-Core module's non-volatile memory (logger-resident program) defines its operation. A menu-driven program that resides in a Windows-based computer (computer-resident program) establishes user-interaction with the logger. This program allows the user to initialize the logger, view data on-line, offload and display the recorded data, or erase the flash memory. Sensitive tasks are password-protected. Design of a simple and efficient communication protocol allows the logger to be independent of the computer-resident program, which permits the data acquisition to be unaffected even in the event of the computer getting hung.
