Description Based on one year wave data collected at 4 locations along the Indian coast, the frequency of occurrence of double-peaked spectra was estimated. It was found that 40% of the data analysed was single-peaked. The double peaked wave spectra were analysed for sea and swell dominated cases and it was found that the observed spectra were mainly swell dominated. Double peaks were observed approximately at 1.7 to 2.4 times the frequency of the main peak. The wave spectrum can be satisfactorily represented by the Scott and Scott-Wiegel spectra with an average correlation coefficient of 0.8. Wave group statistics were estimated and it was found that the mean length of run considering all records for locations 1 to 4 were 1.36, 1.32, 1.28, 1.33 for H is greater than H sub(s) and 2.21, 2.1, 2.11, 2.16 for H is greater than H sub(mean) which were slightly higher than the theoretical values
