Description Marine biodiversity is threatened in India because of several developmental pressures. Marine biologists of India are identifying the coastal and offshore areas of India for conservation. Some of these areas have been declared as Biosphere Reserves, Wildlife Sanctuaries, Marine Parks and Protected Areas. Detailed studies of 37 sites along the Maharashtra Coast, for their marine biota and also the ecological conditions, were taken up. Out of these, seven most luxuriant areas in marine biodiversity have been recommended for conservation and proper management.
