Description The status of coastal fisheries for the state of Goa (India) is discussed. The research and development capabilities of various institutions; capture fisheries; culture fisheries; and coastal aquaculture in Goa is discussed. It has been found that industrial development, disproportionate increase in coastal population, and enhanced level of harvesting of fishable resources have adverse impact on fisheries. The impacts such as mass mortality, eutrophication of water body, baulovirus infections in farmed prawns, and sulphide formation in intertidal and shallow biotopes. For sustainable management and development of coastal fisheries. There is need for effective application of science and technology.
