Description The evolution of the eastern continental margin of India (ECMI), the Bengal Fan and the Central Indian Basin (CIB) is a consequence of the breakup of India from the eastern Gondwanaland in Late Jurassic to Early Cretaceous. Recent marine geophysical studies provided some new information about the structure, tectonics and the evolutionary history of this region and also helped in identifying some target areas for offshore exploration of ECMI
