Description Indian National Oceanographic Data Centre (INODC) is engaged in developing a marine biological data and information management system (BIODIMS). This system will contain the information on zooplankton in the water column, zoobenthic biomass and their densities at the bottom of the sea, chlorophyll and primary production in the euphotic zone of the sea water column and marine microbiological information on microorganisms in the sea water and at the bottom. The system is designed for the computerized storage, retrieval and presentation of marine biological data and information to end users. The system is in modular form and consisting of three modules namely inventory, documentation and processed data level information. The system was designed on the concept of open architecture, so that information flow in future can be added without disturbing the existing structure. In the present communication, it describes the principle underlying the BIODIMS and its capability for supporting information and facilities for presentation
